wolf's head film?
Some say that Lake Superior, in profile, resembles the head of a wolf — Isle Royale as the watchful eye, the Keweenaw Peninsula forming the open maw. Whether documented history or lakeside hearsay, the image has endured. It evokes something wild, storied, and distinctly ours.
Wolf’s Head Film takes its name from that spirit — rooted in place, shaped by shoreline, and guided by the belief that we can be drawn together in collecting together.
Founded in 2025, Wolf’s Head Film is a Keweenaw-based organization dedicated to bringing people together through cinema. We present thoughtfully curated film screenings, collaborative programs with local organizations, and events that transform theaters, community halls, and unexpected spaces into places of shared experience.
We believe film is more than entertainment. It is a gathering ground. A flicker in the dark that invites conversation, connection, and curiosity. In small towns and along big water, stories carry differently — they echo across generations, spark dialogue among neighbors, and help us better understand ourselves and one another.
Our work focuses on fostering appreciation, accessibility, and the creation of independent film in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, with particular care for the Keweenaw and surrounding Copper Country communities. We champion diverse voices, regional storytelling, and the communal ritual of watching together.
We invite you to gather with us — to sit in the dark, to laugh, to question, to feel. The credits roll, but the conversation continues.

Wolf’s Head Film is a Michigan-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Guided by a volunteer board of directors and supported by community partners, we are committed to strengthening the cultural fabric of our region through film.
