About the event
Directed by filmmaker Heather Courtney ( a Keweenaw-raised filmmaker), this Emmy-winning documentary follows a group of childhood friends from the Copper Country as they come of age, join the National Guard, deploy to Afghanistan, and return home to navigate life after war.
Featuring familiar faces and places from our own community, the film offers an intimate portrait of growing up in the UP, the bonds that shape us, and the lasting effects of military service on the people who serve and the communities they leave behind.
Winner of a 2012 News & Documentary Emmy Award, Where Soldiers Come From is a powerful piece of local history worth revisiting together.
This screening is brought to you by documentarian Heather Courtney and The Orpheum Theater.
